AKA How To Get 40% Off Rec In Portland!!
Hello! I am back with a money saving hack you can also take advantage of!
First thing’s first. Hi, how are you doing today? I hope you were able to keep cool during the heat wave we just had here in the PNW. Who else is so so happy to have crisp, drizzly weather in the 70’s and 80’s back this week? Let’s get into it, I am going to share one of my best kept secret hacks that will save you $$$, like, a lot of money.
Portland friends(sorry, this is a local deal only), do you want to save 40% off of Recreational prices before tax? We have two dispensaries here in the Portland Metro Area who offer this deal. All you have to do is go get an OLCC handlers card from the website to access the discounted prices. The OLCC handlers card is available via a virtual test on the website here. You will need to pay $100 once the application has been processed to access your card which is good for several years. I received my card in 2018 and it’s expiring this year in 2023, so 5 years for a one time fee of $100. The test is open book, the process is very similar to getting a food handlers card and/or the OLCC card for bartending.
If you don’t qualify for the card or if that’s something you are not willing to do, I recommend that you go take a look at Green Muse over on Killingsworth in NE PDX. They are Black owned and operated, offer fantastic customer service, everyone I’ve worked with has been extremely knowledgeable. They are very community focused, they have fundraisers and do a lot for the community. Lets support the people who were impacted the most by the war on drugs and show them some love.
Now, back to the details for the discount. Once you have your OLCC handlers card you can go to two different shops, one on the Westside located in Hillsboro, but on the way to Forrest Grove and one tucked away in the Cully neighborhood located in NE Portland. Let’s talk about the Portland store first.
Arcanna is a little independently owned and operated dispensary located on Freemont Street in NE Portland. Located in one of the small retail spots on Freemont, they are tucked away between restaurants and a gift shop. They have a wide variety of products ranging from budget friendly to top shelf. Flower, cartridges, concentrates, edibles, topicals, they have a wonderful selection available. Trust me I’m there at least once a week depending on what I’m doing. Once you have your OLCC card you qualify for the industry discount. That’s 40% off most items(details are listed on the website, and are subject to change). If you are not sure that it’s worth it, the industry menu is listed on the website, go take a look at how much you could save! It’s honestly the only reason that you friendly neighborhood weed blogger is able to keep myself in the weed I want, not the weed I can afford.
A couple things to keep in mind when looking at the menu. Arcanna is one of the few shops in town that uploads actual pictures of the flower that they have on the menu. Each image is specific to the strain, farm, batch that they receive in and it’s exactly what you will get when you take it home. Pictures don’t do the ladies justice and I highly recommend going into see and smell the offerings before you purchase. On top of having pictures of the actual products, the harvest dates are listed on all of the flower on the menu. The nose knows what you like, listen to it and you will have a good time.
Before I move along to the other location offering this deal, please if you do nothing else I recommend in this post, tip your Budtenders! Budtenders are generally paid minimum wage, without commission. They are one of the foundations of our industry, and take care of customers with kindness and compassion even on the hardest days. Especially if you are getting a smokin’ deal on your products, tip them like you would tip your waiter at dinner, on a first date.
The same deal is available at the Western Oregon Dispensary location in Hillsboro. They do require you to have your card on hand to verify with each purchase. They are the industry store in a small chain of locations. Honestly, I live closer to this location and still go to Arcanna more regularly. The flower selection is better IMO and the website is head and shoulders above WOD. They do not have pictures of the products, they don’t list the farm, or harvest date, and they don’t have an industry menu with the discounted prices listed. For this reason I drive into Portland to pick up. That’s my opinion, do with it as you will. I have shopped with WOD on and off for years before they started to offer this deal. Overall, the quality of the flower I see in store is not a high as I see in Portland. That’s not even specific to Arcanna, IMO you can find better quality flower in Portland proper then I see out on the Westside of town.
All right then! That’s all I have to share with y’all today. Have you shopped at either location that I mentioned? What did you think? What are your favorite shops in town? Let me know in the comments below!!
