I have had a few different strains of the Fire Dept. Concentrates, and I’d like to share my thoughts with y’all.
All of these were picked up at Western Oregon Dispensary in Hillsboro. While I have preferred concentrate brands, I like to try all sorts to see what is out there. I will try something on the lower end or the higher end from time to time to make sure I’m not missing out on something special or overpaying.
All three are relaxing and help to quiet down my brain and tune into my body. This is one of the primary reasons I use cannabis, it helps me deal with my anxiety and focus my thoughts in a way that serves me. I use traditionally relaxing strains throughout the day to keep my brain and body in balance. They can be refreshing rather then relaxing for me now that I know which terpenes are right for me.
These are retailing for $20/1g plus tax on the Oregon recreational market. The overall impression I got from these is they are okay, nothing special to write home about at this price point. When I used my Puffco Pro to smoke them, they weren’t harsh at all, very smooth, the experience is a little bit flat for me personally as the terpenes did not come through. I tried both Lava Cake, and Sundae Driver which were processed by Cultivated Industries.
The next option I want to talk about is W**kie Girl X Queso Perro, which was processed by Mana Extracts. The W**kie Girl X Queso Perro was the first that I purchased, and wound up the best of the three for me. Overall these are fine, they smoke well, if you are not concerned about flavor.
Fire Dept. is white labeling which means that they are not processing their own concentrates, they are having other companies do the work which is a common practice in all sorts of industries. Anyone who has ever purchased a store brand product has purchased something that was white labeled. It is telling that they stopped working with Mana as the quality was better on that run vs the other runs from Cultivated. I would rather see a company with quality products then yet one more low quality processor.
Because of the terpenes and the overall quality in the Mana run from Fire Dept., I am trying out a different concentrate by Mana (Mimosa X GMO, picked up at Kalefa – Hillsboro) to see if their quality has improved. They have been a bit inconsistent when compared to other processors. Based on the other products on the market, I would purchase Fire Dept. again, if they were the only option, if everything was sold out and I couldn’t make it to a different shop. There are other options out there for five to ten more dollars that are consistent, tasty, and have the terpene profiles I prefer. I recommend Rose City Reserve, Viola, or Artifact if you are looking for something in the $20-$30 per gram range.
Have you tried Fire Dept. Concentrates, what did you think? Let me know in the comments!!
